International Women’s Day: Writers

In honor of today being international women’s day, I would like to acknowledge some lady poets that I am a personal fan of. Remember to support female voices in all aspects of modern media- including in poetry!

Saying that reminds me of a poetry anthology that I gave a low rating to seeing as even though it was compiled in the late nineties still had a section for poems about women, yet the majority of the section’s authors were male, as was the rest of the section. It is important to allow women to be the authoritative voice on the experience of being a woman, which is as important in the people we read as in our politics.

So here are some lady poets to support today by putting in your modern collection:

Joanna Kurowska

Warsan Shire

Nayyirah Waheed

Kathleen Norris

Jessy Randall

Sharon Dexter

Cathy Warner

Caitlyn Siehl

Followers: Who are your favorite female poets (whether they are modern or classic)?

  1. You could certainly see your skills within the work you write.
The arena hopes for even more passionate writers such as you
who are not afraid to mention how they believe.
    Always follow your heart.
